You and Me

2007-ongoing

You and Me is a photo project that I began in summer 2007. I was in the midst of packing my things to go to Israel for a few years. I wanted to take along a photo to help me remember my good friends from Berlin, a photo that showed not only them, but me with them.

Over the years a loosely connected series of photos is emerging. Each is motivated by a special event – often my departure. The settings are always different, but each photo is taken with my 1937 Rolleiflex. I use a thin 15-meter tube filled with air as a shutter release. To trip the shutter, you need to squeeze a small bulb, which compresses the air. Because of the time-delay, it’s impossible to control when the photo is taken.

The photo Angela and Me was taken at the Müggelsee near Berlin in 2014. It was Angela’s birthday and she wanted to celebrate it just with me far from the madding crowd in a cabin on the lake – at the end the perfect scenery for our picture.

The project is „endless“ in the sense that there will always be changes and a number of friends are on the waiting list. The equipment remains the same – it’s the constant in the story.
