HAUS#1 presents the long-term project Ideal City (since 2003) by Berlin-based conceptual artist and architect Birgit Naomi Glatzel (*1970) for the first time. It was inspired by Sara Ball’s flip book ‘Kro-gu-fant’ for children, which allows you to create imaginative creatures from parts of different animals. Ideal City extends this creative concept to cities worldwide. It shows constructions, places and features that are virtually linked in three categories – services, transport and recreation. Users can combine their favourite places from different cities via a computer interface. The project opens up a new perspective on cities by placing familiar places in unexpected contexts, thus allowing social and historical values to be experienced in a new way. It is an ongoing, constantly expanding project that began in Berlin and Tel Aviv and is gradually integrating other cities such as New York, Shanghai and Bratislava.
